I'm terribly behind in a lot of correspondence--for those of you waiting, I haven't forgotten you, I truly adore the notes and gifts you've sent. I'm just a loser during the winter months and I'm still firguring work-arounds for that failing. Some of it involves not letting guilt be an obstacle or an excuse. Which is both very hard to do and very effective.

Like exercise, like writing, like personal growth of any flavor.

So as a promissory note towards the emails, real-mails and packages that are also in the works (and unlike previous winters neither hanging like swords nor shamefully abandoned, just on-hold without self-judgement), here's an update of sorts.

Fannishly: Do repeated watchings of "Sense & Sensibility" and "Serenity" count for fannishness? I have no real thoughts except the first is a new aquisition and the second so chewy and pretty despite the flaw of Mr. Universe. Like the "Your traitorous father is dead--oh, hey! We're landing in Rio!" moment in "Notorious", it's forgivable if only to provide contrast with the excellence of the rest of the ride.

I saw the first episode of "Dexter", which Mr. F rented on [livejournal.com profile] thassalia's rec. Intriguing, except for one thing.

I find his foster sister inexcusably awful and unbelievable as even the most newbie cop. Scratch that. If the sister is the artiste making bloodless Barbie dolls out of sex workers and wanting to play with Dexter, say if she were the Sinister to pair with our broken protagonist, I could not only forgive but also be uniformly charmed by the show. She really sold the "I'm peeing myself with nerves but ballsing my way through despite it." during the task force meeting.

My adventures in health and fitness continue sporadically. Mr. F does not have TB, but likely bronchitis or asthma. Cmonkey has a cold. Toodles for now!

I am only posting a reply to use this icon. ;) Do stick with Dexter, though.

What is the flaw of Mr Universe? (Not implying there isn't one, genuinely asking the question.)

He's pivotal in that he's anarchistic, a trusted contact, and his hardware is necessary for the verse-wide broadcast. And we've never heard of him before Wash pipes up mid-movie. Which would be okay in my book if we found out there was a price to using him that the crew didn't ever want to pay before then. Without that he's just too sudden and convenient for me.

That's fair. I realise on reading your comment that on some level I'd had that thought, but it was just a flicker on the way to assuming that the only reason we haven't heard of him is because the series got suddenly canned - my brain happily assumed that we only hadn't heard of him because he was to show up later. In my head Firefly went for as long as Farscape or Xena did, and Mr Universe popped up as regularly as Stark or Joxer did, only because we only ever got to see the first few episodes, they never got around to making all those ones - but made the miniseries that followed on from them. There are big jumps from where we leave Firefly and where we pick up Serenity, and they're mostly, to my mind, explained by Serenity working on the premise that all the stuff we never saw did actually happen.

I am not entirely sure you're ever going to like Deb. I'm still not sure I do, but there's... she serves a crucial role and the show wouldn't be what it is without her. (Plus, she's all nerve and emotion and that's... important). I like that she's there even if she often makes me wince.

Glad you're trying it out though. I think that it'll be right up Feld alley if you decide to stick with it:)

Not a Deb fan here, but it gets better--especially re: other characters and their interaction. Do keep watching!
